Error: Invalid user name or password for the guest OS with V

I have the following problem:

Some days ago i create a new ubuntu 10.04 VM (before we got a ubuntu 9.04 version). I installed and configured all prerequisites (for testing) like on ubuntu 9.04.

If i try to start my test now i always get the following error:
Error: Invalid user name or password for the guest OS

My command looks like:

vmrun -T esx -h https://myserver.sq.fabasoft.com:443/sdk -u "root" -p "password" -gu "root" -gp "password" listProcessesInGuest "[Datastore] hostname/hostname.vmx"
Error: Invalid user name or password for the guest OS

I can start / stop / revert the VM programatically without problems but i cant listprocesses or start any script in it.

Anyone knows what i have forget or what is missing/configured wrong

VMWare Tools for Linux Version 3.5.0, build-110271

For just starting a VM you have to authentificate on the HOST. Are you sure that the VMware Tools are installed correctly on the Guest OS? Because thats a prerequisite before you can start to modifying the Guest OS from outsite.

Also check the credentials of the Guest User account you are using.

I'm not really sure that i have installed it correctly but i don't know how i can figure at that it installed correctly.

The first problem i have was that i get the errormessage that i haven't installed the vmware tools. Then i modified some packages for vmware tools and after that the first problem is gone. Then i got always the error "invalid username or login".

Also check the credentials of the Guest User account you are using. <-- i thought that i have made a fault so i upgrade my old vm from 9.04 to 9.10 and then to 10.04 then i reinstalled the vmware tools. But i also get the same error.

on ubuntu 9.04 it works with this credentials and i made no change to it.

PS: i also understand german answers if u want.
