Hallo zusammen,

ich update zurzeit mein Homelab von vSphere 6.0 auf 6.0 Update 1. Das vCenter war kein Problem und hat einwandfrei funktioniert. Ich scheitere allerdings beim ESXi Update. Wenn ich mit dem Update Manager versuche den Host upzudaten erhalte ich nach ca.2min den esxupdate-Fehlercode 15 im vCenter zurück. Auf dem ESXi host sehe ich in /var/log/esxupdate.log folgendes:

Interessant ist wahrscheinlich die letzte rot markierte Zeile ".....No space left on device" . Wenn ich auf dem Host ein df -h absetze erhalte ich folgendes:

Das OS ist auf einer 8GB SD-Card installiert. Wenn ich richtig liege gehören die drei vfat Partitionen zum OS. Ich frag mich, wo der Rest der 8GB SD Card sind ?

Kann mir jmd. helfen ?

hat wirklich keiner eine Idee ? Ich bin mit meinem Latein am Ende. Konnte keinen KB Artikel finden, der mir weiterhelfen konnte. Auch ein Offline Update scheitert mit den gleichen Events, die auch beim VUM auftreten.

Deine Installation ist die große "Embedded"-Variante (Näheres hier: http://vmware-forum.de/viewtopic.php?t=30674). Es werden nur 3,4 GB benötigt - der Rest bleibt ungenutzt.

Da bei dir alle Volumes vorhanden sind und auch noch etwas Platz darauf ist, vermute ich, dass dein Root-Dateisystem voll ist, da du möglicherweise keine Scratch-Location eingerichtet hast.

eigentlich hatte ich für jeden meiner drei ESXi Hosts eine eigene 10GB LUN angelegt und in den Advanced Settings des jeweiligen Hosts die Scratch Location angegeben. Ich habe jetzt nochmal die Einstellungen überprüft und festgestellt, dass die Scratch Location vom System auf /tmp/scratch umgestellt wurde. Obwohl die Scratch Location auf /tmp/scratch umgestellt wurde, hat der Host weiterhin in die von mir extra dafür angelegte LUN geschrieben, zumindest haben eine ganze Menge Log Dateien einen aktuellen Zeitstempel.

Wie dem auch sei.....

Ich hab den Host dann in den Maintenance Mode gefahren, die Scratch Location auf den ursprünglich von mir definierten Ort konfiguriert und den Host rebootet. Danach hab ich die Einstellungen nochmal gecheckt und es sieht soweit auch alles gut aus. Dann hab ich nochmal ein Update versucht, dass Verhalten ist allerdings immer noch identisch. Nach ca 5 Minuten erhalte ich Fehlercode 15 zurück und das Update bricht ab. In /var/log/esxupdate.log steht folgendes:

Bei dir ist irgend eine Partition vollgelaufen. Lass dir mal mit [moderator]"df -h"[/moderator] den freien Platz anzeigen.

Doppelt verdammt, da war zum einen der nächste Buchstaben-Dreher und zum anderen ist anscheinend auch noch Platz frei. Ich weiß allerdings auch nicht wirklich, wieviel Platz dieses bzw ein beliebiges Update braucht.

Tippfehler passieren

Ich will das ESXi 6.0 Complete Update 1 installieren. Das Update ist laut KB Artikel 704.5MB groß.

Wenn allein der Download bereits gute 700MB groß ist, wird der gepackte Inhalt ja je nach Packlevel noch etwas grösser sein. Pack die Zip-Datei doch einfach mal auf deinem Rechner aus. Dann weißt du doch sehr genau, wieviel freien Speicher (Zip plus ausgepackter Inhalt) du mindestens vorhalten mußt...

Führe bitte auch ein

aus - dann siehst du, wie voll die RamDisk(s) sind.

Weil nach deinen Angaben genug Platz vorhanden sein sollte. Das Patch-Bundle wird nicht komplett in die RAMDisk geladen - es sei denn, die Directory-Links stimmen nicht.

Servus zusammen,

ich konnte das Problem lösen. Ich habe unter /vmfs/volumes/55032414-3222f720-a52b-80ee739e2a51/vsantraces eine Reihe von gezippten vsantraces gefunden und einfach gelöscht. Danach waren die vfat Partition wieder nahezu leer und das Update konnte durchgeführt werden. Mein drei ESXi Hosts laufen jetzt endlich unter 6.0.0 3247720.

Noch einige Anmerkungen:

- Das zuletzt erwähnte Volume ist die "locker"/"store"-Partition
- Der Ordner "vsantraces" gehört auf die scratch-Partition (War das mal aus Versehen falsch gesetzt?)
- Der Platzbedarf unter 6.0U1 auf der "locker"-Partition sind bei mir 208.1 MB (77.7 frei)
- Wenn dein "locker" nach dem Entfernen der Traces fast leer war, waren auch die Tools nicht mehr dort.

Ich vermute, dass eine Zeit lang "vsantrace" aus Versehen auf der "locker"-Partition lief und das Volume fast ganz voll war. Der Update-Prozess hatte dann 2 MB zu wenig Platz für die neuen Tools.
