CPU Kompatibilität

Hallo!

Ich habe 2 bestehende Hosts mit Xeon 5148 CPUs und will 4 neue Hosts mit Xeon 5450 CPUs kaufen. Sind diese untereinander VMotion kompatibel? Aus den Datenblättern bzw. KB bei VMware werde ich nicht schlau.

Laut dieser Liste sind die beiden CPUs nicht untereinander vmotion kompatibel:

Wenn ich aber im KB 1991 lese ( http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/micros ... nalId=1991 ) interpretiere ich folgendes:

5100 = Group B
5400 = Group C

For B<->C VMotion, apply SSE4.1 mask. (Not supported prior to ESX 3.5. Experimentally supported for ESX 3.5 and later only.)

Weil VMware das aber nicht supported, würde ich es nicht machen

warum nicht mit den neuen Maschinen gleich auf vSphere / ESX4 gehen?
Deine neuen CPU's können ja auch schon FT, für einige Maschinen eine durchaus interessante Option

Willst Du denn die "alten" Maschinen noch dauerhaft weiterbetreiben?
Können die durch ein CPU Upgrade auf den identischen Stand gebracht werden?
