Every few weeks I have the problem that my VMWARE GSX Linux server kills some virtual machines.
Config: VMWARE GSX 3.2
Machine: Dual Opteron 252 8 GB RAM
Kernel: tried 2.6.11.7 standard (SuSE 9.3)
tried 2.6.13.2 (no difference)
UNder 2.6.14 GSX didbn't run (maybe with the latest any-any Patches it would.
Example:
Aug 2 18:08:50 opteron kernel: oom-killer: gfp_mask=0xd1
Aug 2 18:08:50 opteron kernel: Out of Memory: Killed process 7658 (vmware-vmx)
I surely do not use all 8 GB of RAM. The management console anyhow shows not even 3 GB but that must be an error.
I then restricted the use of RAM down to about 6.5 GB RAM. I also allowed swapping all vmware processes. All that doesn't help. Why does GSX allow its processes to get grow more in memory than allowed. It should stop a machine from being started if the maximum of memory would be exhausted.
After the kill the whole system is unstable and I have to reboot.
Is this due to AMD?
Has somebody an idea/help?
Rainer
