GSX v3 unter ADC Controller ?

Hallo zusammen,

Sollte gehen.

Hier der Knowledge-Base-Artikel:

Installing VMware Products on a PDC or BDC

Question
I want to install one of VMware's products on a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain controller or a Primary or Backup Domain Controller. Can this be done?

Answer

You cannot install VMware products on a Backup Domain Controller (BDC) due to the design and makeup of the BDC server's role in a domain. The BDC is essentially a copy of the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) and does not allow certain functions to occur that are not on the PDC.

While VMware products can be installed on a PDC, this is not recommended as the PDC has other functions that are more critical, and the VMware product can and does utilize a large portion of the system resources.

VMware products do not support running on a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain controller. If you want to run VMware products on such a host machine, you must uninstall Windows 2000 and reinstall it without configuring the machine as a domain controller. After you complete the re-installation, you can install VMware products again.

VMware products do not support running on a Windows NT Server 4.0 host that is configured as a primary OR backup domain controller. If you want to run VMware products on such a host machine, you must uninstall Windows NT and reinstall it without configuring the machine as a domain controller. After you complete the re-installation, you can install VMware products again.

Here is how to install Wmvare GSX server 3 on a Windows Domain Controller.

1. Use an MSI editor like http://www.masaieditor.com/
PS! Requires .Net framework 1.1 or newer.
Get .Net from MS: dotnetfx.exe

2. Use Winzip to extract the files from the file:
VMware-gsx-server-installer-3.0.0-7592.exe

3. Edit VMware GSX Server.msi with Maisai editor.
Remove: Event Sequensing->Install Execute Sequence->LaunchConditions 410

4. Save and exit Maisai.

5. Install GSX server 3 with: VMware GSX Server Installer.msi

6. On your virtial machines you need to edit:
C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (w2k)
C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (w2k3/xp)

Add under: 127.0.0.1 localhost
192.168.2.1 MyDomaincontroller
192.168.2.1 MyDomaincontroller.internetdomain.com

Where 192.168.2.1 is the ip address of the DC/DNS.
Change to your ip and name of course.
Save and restart the virtual computer.
The Virtual machine is now able to contact the DC/DNS.

If you are unable to log on to a virtual computer
(Windows hangs before the logon box). Just disable
network in WMware when it hangs and you will be able
to log on locally to edit the host file.

Hope this helps any like minded out there.

VMWare: It would be really OK if the installer allowed this, but instead stated no support and a dialog sporting: Are your REALLY sure you want to do this!!!.

Viel Spass, und immer dran denken,
DIESE KONFIGURATION IST NICHT SUPPORTET

Hi PDG,
