Performance Probleme durch hohe IO Waits / IO beschränken?

Hallo,
als einer von vielen haben auch wir das Problem, dass in Zeiten in denen einer der Gäste viel Platten-IO anfordert die Performance aller Gäste ins bodenlose einbricht ....
Meine Frage: Gibt es in VMserver 1 (oder Version 2 oder ESX(i) ) die Möglichkeit die maximal von einem Gast nutzbare IO (in IOPS und MBPS) zu beschränken?
... ich kann einfach nicht genügend Platten IO an die Server hängen ... heute haben die Hosts ein eigenes RAID aus SAS 15K Platten und die VMs liegen auf RAID-Sets mit 15 * SATAII und PERC/6E ....

sind deine vmx-files und die config.ini gut ?

Eine Möglichkeit gäbe es nur über 3rd Party, z.B. DataCore SANmelody. Das kann QoS auf Storagelevel. Andere Möglichkeiten sind mir so nicht bekannt.

Im Logfile steht zu Haufe: SCSI0:0: Command WRITE(10) took 1.124 seconds (ok)
... die Sekunden Zahl schwankt immer zwischen 1 und 3 ....
Der Gast ist eine WindowsXP SP2, 1CPU, 2GB RAM -
Der Host: DELL 2970, 2 Quad Core Opteron, 16 GB, 2*SAS für Host, 15*SATA für Gäste,
OpenSuSE 10.3 32Bit, VMware-Server 1.0.6, es laufen 7 Gäste ....

Hallo,
die ersten Zeilen des Logfiles .... ich habe diverse Zeilen rau/abgeschnitten ...
tausende Zeilen der Art: vmx| SCSI0:0: Command WRITE(10) took 1.073 seconds (ok) ...
--> Wenn ich mir den Rechner in dieser Zeit mit iostat anschaue, so sehe ich eine fast 100% Auslastung des Plattensystems ...
Schön das eine einzige VM in der Lage ist die 15 Platten komplett zu nutzen, aber das ergibt eine sehr unschöne Verteilung der Ressourcen und stellt die Praxis-Tauglichkeit doch sehr in Frage ... kann der ESX dass IO Beschränken???

Der Abschnitt sagt schon viel aus. Zuerst legt er ein Pagingfile von 2GB für die VM (jede deiner VM's

) an und dann ist die v.Disk auch noch als Sparse angelegt. Zumindest eine Bremse hast du mit der Einstellung Persistent im Independent Disk Mode in den erweiterten Disk-Konfigs gelöst.
Um solche Performance-Einbrüche zu verhindern bietet sich auch das automatisiert verzögerte Starten deiner VM's nach einem Reboot an. Leider sind diese Einstellungen nur über die Web-Console im Browser und nicht mit der VMware_Server_Console oder mit dem manuellem Eingriff in die vmx-Konfig zu erreichen.
