Benutze schon seit einiger zeit VMware Server auf Kanotix, da ich ab und zu Windoof Anwendungen brauche.
Wegen einem nötigen Distributions-update ging vmware nicht mehr, hab es kurzerhand komplett neuinstalliert, da das update wirklich umfassend war und ich dies für die einfachste Lösung hielt.
Soweit so einfach, doch vmware-config.pl stellt mich vor ein Problem:

your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)? [yes]Ist ja soweit ja klar und zu erwarten gewesen.
Doch dann:

Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.0.4", while you are trying to use
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.3". This configuration is not recommended and
VMware Server may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same
compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler
"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.3" anyway? [no]
Lasse ich es trotzdem durchlaufen, bricht es mit folgender fehlermeldung ab:

Unable to make a vmmon module that can be loaded in the running kernel:
insmod: error inserting '/tmp/vmware-config1/vmmon.o': -1 Invalid module format
There is probably a slight difference in the kernel configuration between the
set of C header files you specified and your running kernel. You may want to
rebuild a kernel based on that directory, or specify another directory.

Hab leider nicht allzuviel ahnung von Linux oder Vmware und kann damit nichts anfangen.
Hoffe ihr könnt mir helfen, hab mich nun sehr an Linux gewöhnt und bin sehr zufrieden damit gewesen. Nur ohne die Notfalllösung vmware für die sachen die auf linux nicht gehen, ists doof
