Dear VMware GSX Server Customer,

VMware is pleased to provide you with early access to the latest release of GSX Server as part of our GSX Server 3.1 Beta program. We hope you will try it out and report your findings to us.

Here are your assigned GSX Server 3.1 Beta serial numbers (they are needed to activate the software, so please save them):

The Beta serial numbers support servers with up to eight processors. If you need support for servers with more processors, please email gsx-beta@vmware.com. These beta serial numbers will remain active through June 30, 2004.

Here are some answers to questions about this beta program:

Q: What is new in GSX Server 3.1 Beta?
A: GSX Server 3.1 Beta includes these features that we would like
beta testers to try:
- Support for VMware VirtualCenter K2 Beta. If you would like
access to VirtualCenter K2 Beta, please send email to
virtualcenter-beta@vmware.com
- Experimental support for 64-bit host computers with extended x86
instruction sets (AMD Opteron and Athlon 64 and Intel IA-32e
processors) with 32-bit host operating systems and these 64-bit
host operating systems:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2003 for 64-Bit Extended Systems (beta)
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3
- SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8
- Experimental support for x86 platform edition of Sun Solaris 9 and
10 beta as guest operating systems
- Support for recently updated Linux and FreeBSD releases

Q: How was I selected for this beta program?
A: We invited registered GSX Server customers who have been active in
past beta programs and customers requesting new features that have
been added in the 3.1 beta release. New users can be added to the
beta program by contacting gsx-beta@vmware.com.

Q: What equipment do I need to use?
A: You need a 733MHz or faster x86-based system with a minimum of
512MB RAM. GSX Server 3.1 installs on Microsoft Windows Server
2003 (Standard Edition, Enterprise Edition and Web Edition),
Windows 2000 (Server and Advanced Server) and Linux host operating

Q: Where is the documentation?
A: All GSX Server 3.1 Beta documentation is maintained on the VMware
web site at http://www.vmware.com/support/gsx3-beta/doc/

Q: What are the limitations of this release?
A: GSX Server 3.1 Beta is beta software and should not be used for
production applications or be installed on production hosts. This
beta release uses debugging settings, so performance will be less
than expected for the final release.

Q: How do I report problems?
A: If you encounter a problem, please first search the VMware
Knowledge Base at http://www.vmware.com/support/kb/enduser/std_alp.php
to check if it is a known issue. For any problems we have not
documented, please go to our support Web site at
http://www.vmware.com/requestsupport
to submit a support request describing the issues. You have been
pre-registered with beta support entitlement for GSX Server 3.1.
Please be sure to select the GSX Server 3.1 beta product when
entering a support request to help us identify and respond as
quickly as possible to your issues. Please email your general

Q: What if I'm not interested in testing new versions of GSX Server?
A: Please send an email to gsx-beta@vmware.com and we will remove you from our GSX Server 3.1 Beta mailing list.

Q: What is the schedule for the GSX Server 3.1 release?
A: We will issue new GSX Server 3.1 Beta builds as features are added
or bugs are fixed. The final release of GSX Server 3.1 is scheduled
for mid-2004.

Q: Will I receive the final version of GSX Server 3.1 when it is released?
A: All GSX Server customers with active support and subscription
contracts at the time of the GSX Server 3.1 release will be eligible
to receive it as a no-cost upgrade.
