Backup ESX4 host itself ? (config, ...)

hi,
with vsphere (esx4) enterprise plus i can do a new installation from CD and then restore a host-profile (feature)

so in my opinion there is no backup of the host itself necessary

but how can i do a backup of a esx-host itself (configuration, ...) if i use only vsphere enterprise or standard...

exist there any best practises?
