Das System auf dem ESX3i ist sehr schmal gehalten und hat keine unnötigen Dienste.

Ich selbst habe es zwar noch nicht eingerichtet von daher kann ich nicht 100% sagen das es funktioniert, aber das steht zumindest im Handbuch "Basic System Administration".

Using SNMP with ESX Server 3i
ESX Server 3i ships with an SNMP management agent different from that which runs
in the service console of ESX Server 3. Currently, this SNMP agent supports only SNMP
traps, not GETS. This agent is off by default. To use this agent, you must enable the
SNMP service, specify at least one community, and configure a trap destination using
the Remote CLI command vicfg-snmp.
Table 5‐10 lists the command options and syntax for the vicfg-snmp command.
