VMware-Server und USB-Devices

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe den VMware-Server (unter Linux) in der aktuellen Version 2.0.1 Build 156745 im Einsatz und habe dabei folgendes Problem: Bei einem Zugriff über die VM Web Console auf eine XP oder Vista VM auf dem Server habe ich das Problem das keine USB-Devices angezeigt werden (bzw. zur virutellen Maschine auf dem Server durchgereicht werden). Den Zugriff habe ich von verschiedenen Rechnern (Windows Vista und XP) probiert, immer das gleiche Problem, es scheint so als ob Windows die USB-Devices nicht freigibt ??? Die USB-Devices sind am Server sondern an dem remote PC angeschlossen.
Unter Ubuntu Linux 8.04, funktioniert das durchreichen der USB-Devices einwandfrei, aber nur einem einzigen Arbeitsplatz aus.

Hat jemand eine Idee??

Hallo,

wenn sich das Host-OS die Geräte greift, sind sie natürlich im Gast nicht verfügbar. Also mal z.B. einen USB-Stick einstecken, 20 Sek. warten bis der Host ihn gemountet hat, und dann im Host-OS Hardware trennen, dann sollte er im Gast verfügbar sein.

aber es ist so das z.B. ein USB-Stick den ich am Notebook anschliesse, zwar direkt unter Vista erkannt wird, aber nicht von dem VM-Remote-Consolen PlugIN registriert wird und somit auch garnichtt von der laufenden VM erkannt werden kann.

Hat noch einer eine Idee ??

Hallo,
im Anhang ist die vmware.log zu finden, ich habe den Vmserver 2.x jetzt auch noch mal unter Windows installiert, so wie es aussieht ist es ein Rechteproblem unter Windows (auf den PC von dem aus ich auf den VMserver zugreife) ist. Es werden einfach nicht die dort angesteckten USB-Devices in der Remote-Konsole(habe Adminrechte) registriert, der Server registriert diese Devices nicht, siehe Log im Anhang(dort findet sich ebenfalls kein Eintrag).

Gehen tut das eigentlich schon, aber ich kenne das nur durch Produkte die man unter dem Schlagwort USB-to-Ethernet findet. Software meistens ....

Hallo nochmal,

es klappt mit dem durchreichen der USB-Devices von einem Linux-Arbeitsplatz (Ubuntu 8.04) problemlos, nur unter Windows scheint das aus irgendeinen Grund nicht zu klappen, mir scheint so als ob der VM-USB-Gerätetreiber nicht sauber installiert wird (hcmon.sys zun Finden in der Registry etc). Interessant sind auch die div. Logfiles unter c:\dokumente und einstellungen\Benutzer\lokale Einstellungen\Temp\vmware-tgl.log z.B auch das Log des Remote-Consolen Plug-In (USBGW in Richtung der Maschine auf dem Server ?!)

Hi,

vielleiht tröstet es Dich ja. Hab CentOS als Host laufen, Server 2.0.1, als VM einen Eisfair1-Server. Dort benötige ich eine FritzCard USB. Funktioniert auch, bis auf so jeden 3. Reboot. Da ist dann plötzlich das Gerät in der VM nicht mehr verfügbar, obwohl es laut Konsole vorhanden ist und auch zugeordnet bzw. unter "plugged into Host" erscheint und auch angehakt ist.
Muss es dann immer mehrmals von Hand trennen, irgendwann gehts wieder. Nervt total und ich kenn keine Lösung.

ueber google hab ich was in erfahrung bringen koennen das es am vmware-server gast fenster liegt und man es nicht darueber einbinden sollte sondern ueber das web interface, nur finde ich es dort nicht ?

kann ich den usb stick auch ueber die console in die vmware einbinden ? wenn wie lautet der befehl hier fuer ?

Im Webinterface findest Du es rechts neben den Symbolen für Starten und Stoppen der jeweiligen VM. Es taucht erst auf wenns in der VM ein USB-Controller gibt.

habe kein usb1 geraet, der drucker scheint usb2 zu sein (?highspeed) kann es an usb2 liegen ?

Sieht mir irgendwie nach einem Rechteproblem für das USB-Device auf dem Host aus. Auf http://sanbarrow.com findest du einige VMX-Einträge für USB und auch einen lesenswerten Link zum Artikel 1648 in der KB von VMware. Der Link funktioniert bei mir nicht direkt, VMware scheint da wieder mal am Bauen zu sein. Allerdings brauchst du die Nummer nur in die Suche der KB eingeben und kommst dann dorthin.

PS: Der Tip mit dem USB-Hub wäre auch mal einen Test wert.
