[zu] Unter Vista 64 als Host kann VM nicht gestartet werden

Habe Vista 64 Home Premium am Laufen,

Hardware
CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 mit 4GB Ram

Mir gelingt es nicht, eine neue VM anzulegen. Nachdem alle Einstellungen gemacht sind, drücke ich Power On und dann bleibt alles hängen.

Im Status "Power On Virtual Machine" bleibt der Progressbalken bei 95% stehen.

Ich versuche es mit Opensuse 11.0 64bit als Gast. Das ist aber wahrscheinlich unerheblich, da die VM noch nicht mal soweit kommt, denn Bootsektor der Installations DvD zu lesen. Es tut sich sichtbar nix, außer dass der Fortschrittsbalken auf 95% schnellt und dann stecken bleibt. Das einzige, was mir jetzt evtl. problematisch erscheint ist, dass ich die Anzahl der CPUs auf 2 gestellt habe.

In dem beschriebenen Zustand kann ich die hängende VM nicht abschießen. Der komplette Server läuft mit etwa 25% Prozessorlast und lässt sich nur durch Reboot zurücksetzen.

Hat jemand einen Tipp, was hier falsch läuft.

Beim ersten Versuch übrigens kam der Hinweis, VT wäre im Bios ausgeschaltet. Ich habe es nun eingeschaltet, aber gebracht hat es nix.

Tach'schen,

ich habe heute morgen eine bestehende VM (Win98) ins System kopiert und diese versucht zu starten.

Ich klicke auf Power on. Im Status wächst der Progressbalken. Dann kommt die Abfrage, ob die VM kopiert oder verschoben uwrde, um evtl eine neue ID anzulegen. Hier klicke ich auf Kopie und der Progressbalken geht weiter hoch.

Doch auch hier ist bei 95% Schluss, der Server tut nix mehr erkennbares.

Der VMServer ist offenbar in einem Zustand, in dem er auch Vista selbst durcheinander bringt. Mit einem derart verstörtem Server, d.h. mit hängemdem Startprozess einer VM, lässt sich Vista nicht ordnungsgemäß runterfahren.

lasse ich den Server übrigens mal vor sich hin brummen, dann kommt nach ca. 3,7 Äonen die Meldung:.

"Power On Virtual Machine" failed to complete

Das bringt mich nicht wirklich weiter!

Hat denn keiner einen Hinweis, woran sowas liegen könnte? Mit der 64bit-Version?

Habe gerade mal komplett neu gebootet und hochgefahren. Jetzt ist es ein bisschen anders. Der VMServer meldet nach rund 2 Minuten, dass er gescheitert ist. Es dauert nicht mehr Ewigkeiten.

Auch gibt das Logfile jetzt preis, was das Problem zu sein scheint.

Die DVD, die angemeckert ist, ist definitiv bootfähig. Auch tritt das Phänomen auf, wenn ich eine existierende VM starten will, die keine bootfähige DVD verlangt.

Also doch ein interner Treiberfehler??

Win98 tutet auch nicht! SuSE 11 ist nicht installiert. Ich komme ja noch nicht mal soweit, dass der Bootsektor der Installations-DVD ausgeführt wird.

und ich weiß auch nicht wieviele USB-Geräte beim Server2 supportet werden. Beim 1er ware es nur 2!

ich will ja die USBse nicht in der VM nutzen. Und wieviele der Host hat ,muss egal sein. Der Server 1.0.8 läuft auf der Hardware ja auch. Allerdings dann unter Linux.

Was sagt denn das Ereignislog von Vista64? Alles von VMware problemlos gestartet?

da bin ich nicht so fit.

Ich sehe folgendes:
vmauthd bringt Fehler mit ID100. Es passt die Zeit aber nicht. Die Fehler enden um 17:53 und die VM wurde zuletzt gegen 18:13 versucht zu starten.

Ansonsten kann ich nichts verdächtiges sehen. Bin aber nicht der Experte.

Wenn ich versuche, den Dienst zu starten, erhalte ich die Meldung, dass vmwareserverdWin32.exe nicht vorhanden ist. Das stimmt. Nirgends auf der Platte ist sie zu finden. Auch ein Pendant vmwareserverdWin64 existiert nicht.

Watt nu?? Lief da was bei der Installation schief? Wenn, dann ist das reproduzierbar, denn wie schon erwähnt, hatte ich schon mal de- und reinstalliert.

Warum diese Extra-Runde? Ganz einfach. Wenn sich VMserver2 genauso in den Fängen von Vista verhaspeln sollte wie auch schon der Boinc-Client, siehst du einige Meldungen oder Fenster nicht. Die Installation verläuft scheinbar ohne Probleme durch und scheitert nach einem Reboot dann doch wieder an den Vista-eingebauten Verschleierungstechniken zum Schutz der Systemverzeichnisse.
Die Überprüfung bei MS-64bit-OS'e auf Signierte Teiber beim Booten hast Du aber deaktiviert?
Wenn nicht, wird das Ganze wohl eh nix. Bei Krake Google findet sich dazu jede Menge Material.

Lege eine neue VM unter dem VMServer2 an und wähle win98 oder Suse Linux oder Linux allgemein mit Kernel 2.6. Wenn einem das Menu schon diese Auswahl anbietet, dann sollten die entsprechenden OS auch unterstützt sein, oder?

Aber wie auch immer, der Gast ist bei meinem Prob egal, weil der VMServer es nicht schafft, die virtuelle Maschine überhaupt einzuschalten. Der eigentliche Bootprozess käme erst später. "Failed on Power on"!!

Ja, habe ich gesehen, doch das betrifft, soweit ich das überblicke, den VMServer der Version1 und nicht Version 2.

Wenn die Version 2 immer noch solche Probleme mit Vista hätte, wäre das ein Armutszeugnis.

Das Gewurschtel mit signierten Treibern ausschalten und dann Windows nicht mehr runterfahren dürfen sonder nur noch in den Suspend-Modus wechseln ist für mich keine Option. Ich denke aber auch, das Thema ist bei der Version 2 durch.

Ich habe aber einen interessanten Hinweis gefunden, dass es evtl. ein Prob mit dem Virenscanner geben könnte. Zwar bezog sich diese Aussage (unter "know issues" auf der VMWare HP) auf Avira Antivir und ich nutze Avast aber man weiss ja nie. Mal schaun, wie ich das Testen kann.

Vista scheint zwar etwas verbaut, doch soll der VMServer unter Windows OSse laufen. Und Vista steht nicht alleine da. Soweit ich weiss, basiert ein Großteil der Innereien von Vista auf denen von Windows Server Dingens.

Aber wie heißt es auch so schön im Handbuch zum Server2:

verwundert ja auch nicht, denn der VMServer soll ja Dienste übers Netz anbieten. Dass dann das Host OS eine solche Infrastruktur anbieten/unterstützen muss, sollte klar sein. Bei Linux und Konsorten ist das alles ja schon drin.

Andererseits ist der VMServer auch nicht für einen Produktiveinsatz vorgesehen sondern für Fall- und Machbarkeitsstudien (case studies), wie es auf der VMWare HP heißen tut. Und das ist eigentlich genau das was ich machen will.

Nicht vergessen, aber vorerst keine Lösung im Angebot.
Ich glaube auch nicht, daß Vista von den Nutzern dieses Forums groß genutzt wird. Zum einen weil es nicht offiziell unterstützt wird, zum anderen weil es Vista ist und zum letzten weil die großen Firmen alle auf Windows7 warten.

Das Problem ist höchstwahrscheinlich nicht das Installieren der Dienste, sondern das Starten derselben nach einem Reboot und wenn da die Überprüfung auf signierte Treiber vor-während-nach Installation nicht deaktiviert ist, gibt es halt seltsame Effekte. Möglicherweise blendet Vista im Explorer die gesuchte Datei genauso aus, wie es auch die Ordner aller Accounts verschleiert. Hast du mal versucht über CMD die betreffende Datei zu lokalisieren?

PS: Das Vista ohne SP gabs für mich beim Rechnerkauf im Dezember'06 bei Dell als kostenlose Upgrade-Option und nach 3monatigem Warten auf MS wurde es auch ausgeliefert und seitdem liegt es immer noch original verschweißt im Schrank. Zum einen weil es Bananen-Ware war/ist und ich nach eigenen schlechten Erfahrungen den Grundsatz der IT beherzige: "Never change a running system".

Bei der Installation unter Windows werden ja im Temp-Ordner zwei vminst/vmmsi.log_Failed/Success-Dateien angelegt.
Wie schauen die den bei dir aus? Irgendwelche Auffälligkeiten?
Interessant sind dabei die Einträge zu den Diensten und die Voraussetzungen zur Installation bei einem Reinstall oder auch bei einem jungfräulichem Install. Da die Dateien bei mir vmmsi=628kb und vminst=120kb groß sind, dauert es eine Weile bevor man etwas findet.
Notepad++ leistet übrigens dabei ausgezeichnete Dienste

Ich denke mittlerweile, das Gerümpel ist von einervorherigen Installation der Version 1 liegen geblieben.Die 1er Version hat ja das Problem mit den nichtsignierten Treibern und meckert ohne Ende bei der Inst. Am Ende wundert es mich nicht, wenn dann bei der Deinstallation auch nicht alles klappt.

Stimmt. Hab deine Datei im 1er Server gefunden. Wird mal sagen, es ist Zeit das Aufräum-Tools von VMware zu laden und damit erstmal sämtliche Einträge auf VMware-Produkte zu beseitigen.
Im Anschluß würde ich glatt nochmal einen Reinstall wagen. Du weißt ja jetzt worauf es ankömmt

Über eine Meldung zu deinem Erfolg oder Mißerfolg würden sich das Forum freuen, genauso wie über eine mögliche Änderung des Erstposting auf ein "gelöst" oä.

Mag alles so sein. Aber gerade der VMServer 1 wurde von vielen Usern benutzt, weil er eine freie Virtualisierungsmöglichkeit bot. Kostet nix! Dass das eigentlich eine Serverlösung ist, ist in diesem Fall egal, weil man ja auch lokal (localhost) arbeiten kann. Nun bei der Version 2 hat man von Seiten VMWare wohl darauf hingearbeitet, dass der VMServer mehr Server ist. Für viele Kleinuser wird der VMServer2 keine Alternative für die Version1 sein. Wenn die Version 1 ausläuft, wird man sich in diesem Segment dann nach anderen Lösungen umkucken. Auch ich habe in meinem Linux-System die Version2 wieder weggeschmissen und bin zurück auf die 1. Wenn die 1 mal veraltet sein wird, und die 2 dann nicht wirklich mich befriedigt, werde ich mich nach anderen Möglichkeiten umschaun.

Für Firmen, die auf der Suche nach einer produktiven Virtualisierungsmöglichkeit sind, taugt der VMServer2 nix. Einer meinte zu Recht, dass ein Samba-Server in einer virtuellen Disk nicht wirklich Sinn macht. Und direkte Plattenzugriffe sind in der Version 2 ja nicht mehr möglich. Ein Schelm wer Böses dabei denkt.

Mein Produktivsystem ist ein Linux. Vista rennt nur, weil ich hin und wieder mal ein Spielchen machen will und das haut mit Linux nicht hin.

Und nun wollte ich nur mal ausprobieren, wie ich eine Suse 64bit aufziehen kann und hänge nun mit meinem Problem hier rum. Grummel

Du kommst dann um ein manuelles Editieren der vmx-Datei nicht herum.

Da ich auch nur mal was ausprobieren wollte, werde ich die Sache nicht weiter verfolgen sondern andere Möglichkeiten in Betracht ziehen.
