ich (vmware-newbie) habe vmware 4.5.2 unter suse 9.1 installiert und habe das problem, das der sound nur solange innerhalb von XP ( als gast ) funktioniert, solange ich die maus innerhalb des gastbetriebssystems hin und herbewege. ich habe
schon die vmware-tools installiert, hat aber nix bgebracht. hat jemand einen tipp?

Sorry - ich musste doch ein bisschen schmunzeln als ich deine Frage gelesen habe. Aber bei Suse wundern wir uns hier eigentlich ueber nichts mehr.
OK - was verwendest du fuer eine Soundkarte im Gast? SB16 oder ES1371?
Was hast du im Gast fuer Treiber installiert?
Was hat dein Host fuer eine Soundkarte - AC97 vielleicht?
Starte bitte mal dein XP und dann sorge mal dafuer dass die Soundprobleme auftauchen - dann wechsel auf den Host und kopier das vmware.log aus dem XP-maschinenverzeichniss und poste das hier. Wollen doch mal sehen ob wir der Suse nicht die Flausen austreiben koennen.

Wie ich gerade sehe bist du nicht alleine. Das Problem betrifft auch nicht nur Suse sondern scheint eine Sache von VMware 4.5 zu sein ...

den Sound-Treiber von vmware 4.5...hab allerdings eben mal den treiber von meiner soundblaster live unter xp installiert - kein effekt.
sb live 5.1 und onboard-sound auf dem mainboard (onboard ist afaik deaktivert)

Was hast du im Gast fuer Treiber installiert?
den Sound-Treiber von vmware 4.5...hab allerdings eben mal den treiber von meiner soundblaster live unter xp installiert - kein effekt.
Was hat dein Host fuer eine Soundkarte - AC97 vielleicht?
sb live 5.1 und onboard-sound auf dem mainboard (onboard ist afaik deaktivert)
...kopier das vmware.log aus dem XP-maschinenverzeichniss und poste das hier.

VMware scheint den onboard AC-97 ansprechen zu wollen - hat dein Host den AC-97 ordentlich installiert? Meistens ist es besser, den Onboard-chip sauber zu installieren und danach zu deaktivieren anstatt den einfach per BIOS abzuschalten - dann bleibt der trotzdem als unbekanntes Objekt fuer den Host sichtbar.

Wenn so ein System keinen Treiber fuer AC97 hat wird der AC97 als unbekanntes Teil gefuehrt - das ist was anderes als wenn es ordentlich erkannt und dann deaktiviert wird.
Auf jeden Fall versucht der Host mit dem AC97 zu plaudern und das Gespraech ueber DAC2 abzuwickeln. Das koennte natuerlich auch daran liegen dass bei irgendeinem Soundprogramm noch AC97 als Ziel angegeben ist.

tja, ich hab jetzt suse 9.1 nochmal neu installiert, ac97 im bios aktiviert und 2 soundkarten aktiv und korrekt konfguriert. anschliessend vmware installiert, make cloneconfig usw. danach vmware-config.pl -> alles okay bis auf folgenden kleinen fehler:

naja. ausserdem erkennt vmware mein dvd-brenner jetzt nicht mehr, d.h. er kann nicht davon booten, egal was für ein device ich angebe ( media/dvd.../dev/cdrom/ /dev/dvdrecorder usw) habe XP aber immerhin über ein image installieren können. ich vermute mal. das es vielleicht mit dem sysfs von suse 9.1 zusammenhängt?! mhh.

Hier lauft win 98 als Gast mit Sound. System Debian GNU Linux Sarge mit Kernel 2.6.9
Und die DVD / CDrom legst du im VMwarebios fest, beim starten F2 drücken und vorher per mausklick in die Maschiene wechseln. Nach dem ersten booten must du dann wieder die CDromm als Bootfähig aktivieren
Alternativen wären Crossweaver, Transgaming oder simpel Wine letzeres ist in SuSE drinn. SuSE verkauft auch ein Winerack nette CD mit Winex und Crossweaverwine

das mit dem bios ist mir klar. ich hab CDROM als erstes bootdevice aktiviert, kein effekt. er sucht nur nach der floppy, mein dvd-brenner wird gar nicht angesteuert. hab schon diverse devices angegeben ( /dev/cdrom, /dev/dvdrecorder) dachte , vielleicht liegts an den berechtigungen, das sollte aber auch ok sein.
im vmware-log sagt er mir zwar "device busy" wenns gemounted ist, wenn ichs aushänge, sagt er mir gar nix, beschwert sich auch nicht, bis auf "No bootable CD, floppy or hard disk was detected".
